FYPFRIENCE AND /OR ACTIVITIES WHICH YOU FEEL QUALIFY YOU FOR THIS POSITION:
I have a Master's degree from U of I in Public Administration. After graduating, I spent 35 years living and working
throughout the country and returned to Iowa City to retire. I have a good understanding of city government and am
very interested in continuing to contribute to the community. As the chief HR executive for more than a decade, I was
responsible for recommending or making dificultdecisions with complex and often conflicting information. I have good
analytical and decision - making skills, am collaborative and have good common sense. I had applied for the P&Z
— mmission vacancy recently and was not selected. I was contacted by Sarah Walz to inform me of this vacancy.
WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ADVISORY BOARD?
I understand that the BOA is the body that hears and may grant special exceptions and variances when there is a
disagreement between the property owner and the city. It is a quasi - judicial body who makes decisions about
individual properties and /or resolve disputes regarding administrative zoning decisions. I understand that this
vacancy results from an unexpired term.
WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS CAN YOU MAKE TO THIS ADVISORY BOARD (REASON FORAPPLYING)?
I previously served on the Human Rights Commission (term ending January 2013) and enjoyed it and felt I made a
contribution. I applied to the P&Z commission earlier this year but was not selected. I am interested in becoming
more knowledgable and involved in the land use issues in the city.

Ginalie and Bob,
It is with regret that I will have to step down from my position on the Historic Preservation Commission. I will
be attending graduate school in the fall and mentoring with the Washington County Horse & Pony Club this
summer -- a very busy and fun time ahead.
Although probably too quiet while on the commission, I was really trying to soak in all the knowledge around
me. You all are so talented and smart! I learned so much.
My last month of service will be June; however, if you can find a replacement sooner, feel free. I will definitely
see you in May.
Thank you both for being such strong and amazing professionals!
Best,
Dana Thomann

Hi, Dana. It would be helpful now if you submit to Bob and me a written resignation so that we can move
forward with finding a replacement (though we wish we didn't have to replace you). Please tell us when the
resignation would be effective.
Thanks, Ginalie
