ITEM 2d(4) HISTORIC US 6 ROUTE- DESIGNATING THE ROUTE OF HISTORIC US 6
AND AUTHORIZING SIGNAGE TO BE INSTALLED WITHIN THE IOWA
CITY CITY LIMITS.
Comment: The Iowa US Route 6 Tourist Association is in the process of
designating the historic route of US 6 across Iowa. In order to make historic
route designation, the Iowa Department of Transportation requires this
resolution. This will allow the signage to be installed identifying the route on
the current state highway system.
ITEM 2e. Setting Public Hearings:
ITEM 2e(1) MAILBOX CLUSTERS – MOTION SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR
JANUARY 21 ON AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 15: LAND
SUBDIVISIONS, REMOVING MAXIMUM DISTANCE REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE PLACEMENT OF CLUSTERED MAILBOXES IN NEW
SUBDIVISIONS AND ADDING GUIDELINES TO ENSURE
APPROPRIATE PLACEMENT OF LARGE CONCENTRATIONS OF
MAILBOXES.

Comment: At its December 19 meeting, by a vote of 7 -0, the Planning
and Zoning Commission recommended approval of this amendment to
the subdivision regulations. The amendment was prompted by a decision
of the U.S. Postal Service that it will no longer support maximum distance
limits on the location of mailbox clusters in new subdivisions —this
amendment does not affect existing subdivisions.
SEWER LINING PROJECT SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING ON
JANUARY 21, 2014 ON PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS, FORM OF
CONTRACT, AND ESTIMATE OF COST FOR THE 2014 SEWER
REHABILITATION PROJECT, DIRECTING CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH
NOTICE OF SAID HEARING, AND DIRECTING THE CITY ENGINEER
TO PLACE SAID PLANS ON FILE FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION.
Comment: This project will repair the sanitary sewer located at various
sites throughout Iowa City. The project will utilize underground repair
technology for the sewer repairs that requires no excavation. The
estimated construction cost is $325,000 and will be funded with
Wastewater revenues.

SPECIFICATIONS, FORM OF CONTRACT, AND ESTIMATE OF COST FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE ROCKY SHORE STORMWATER PUMP STATION
PROJECT, ESTABLISHING AMOUNT OF BID SECURITY TO ACCOMPANY
�� EACH BID, DIRECTING CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH NOTICE TO BIDDERS, AND
FIXING TIME AND PLACE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS.
Comment: This project is one component of a collaborative regional project with the
City of Coralville that is designed to protect Iowa City and Coralville businesses,
University of Iowa facilities and critical infrastructure, including Highway 6. Coralville
is in the process of implementing 4 projects totaling $20.3M as part of this $26.9M
regional effort. Iowa City's project will involve the installation of permanent, automatic
pumps to an existing stormwater structure located near the intersection of Rocky
Shore Drive and Highway 6. It will also include the installation of a floodwall and
permanent flood gate system north of the Rocky Shore Drive viaduct. The estimated
construction cost is $6,600,000 and will be funded with an Iowa Economic
Development Authority grant and a Community Development Block grant.

Comment: City Charter provides that the City Council establish a Charter Review
U Commission at least once every ten years. This resolution establishes the
Commission, and later on the agenda Council will announce the nine vacancies for the
Commission. If this resolution is not acted upon those vacancies should be deferred.
