PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, April 11, 2014, marks the 46th Anniversary of the passage
of the U.S. Fair Housing Laws which enunciates a national policy of Fair
Housing and encourages Fair Housing opportunities for all; and
WHEREAS, housing laws protect the rights of all residents to exercise
free choice in housing regardless of age, race, color, creed, religion,
marital status, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, familial status,
presence or absence of dependents, public assistance source of income
and disability and encourages Fair Housing opportunities for all; and
WHEREAS, The City of Iowa City Human Rights Commission and the
Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® are committed to the Fair
Housing Laws by continuing to address housing discrimination in our
community thru support of programs that will educate the public about
the right to equal housing opportunities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of Iowa City, Iowa,
do hereby resolve that April 2014 is
FAIR HOUSING MONTH
and encourage all agencies, institutions and individuals, public and
private to abide by the letter and spirit of Fair Housing.

Whereas, the coming of Spring produces a renewal of interest in tree planting for
beauty, shade, conservation, and many other purposes beneficial to all people, and
Whereas, the observation of Arbor Day has long been characterized by the planting
and preservation of trees, and
Whereas, we hope that the future will see the creation of a better environment
through the use of trees throughout our cities, towns and countryside, and
Whereas, trees in Iowa City beautify our community, increase property values, and
enhance the economic vitality of business areas,
Now, therefore, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim April 25, 2014, to be

projects throughout the year.
