HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-12-16 ProclamationCity of Iowa City PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, for thirty years Rick Fosse has served the community of Iowa City w expertise, and an unwavering positive attitude; and WHEREAS, as City Engineer and as Public Works Director, Mr. Fosse always made sure the residents and visitors of Iowa City have clean drinking water, reliable streets and sidewalks, empty trash and recycle bins, leafless yards, and flushing toilets; and WHEREAS, notable accomplishments in Mr. Fosse's tenure include the construction of a state of the art water treatment plant, Iowa Avenue and downtown streetscape improvements, the recently completed south wastewater treatment plant, and the planning of numerous other projects yet to come; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fosse's meticulous capital project planning and superb presentation skills have helped numerous City Councils make informed decisions on hundreds of millions of dollars of community projects; and WHEREAS, it is my understanding that Microsoft has pledged to rename its next release of Powerpoint "Fossepoint" in honor of Rick's skill in and passion for this medium, and in fact plans may be in the works for the Richard A. Fosse Experiential Powerpoint Museum and Visitors Center; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fosse has protected Iowa Citians and helped them rebuild from both natural and man-made disasters including floods, tornados, straight-line winds, and, on occasion, 1.3 million smoldering tires; and WHEREAS, the City of Iowa City is a proud university town uniquely positioned to bestow the honors of fictional diplomas, even to graduates of rival universities with nicknames celebrating the very natural disasters from which our residents seek protection. NOW THEREFORE, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of the City of Iowa City hereby confer the honorary degree of Master of Disaster (Relief) to the Honorable Richard A. Fosse for his guidance through many catastrophes and for always getting us back to dry land. I urge the residents of Iowa City to join me in expressing our sincere appreciation for Rick's leadership and dedication to his community: Iowa City owes him a debt of gratitude.
