PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, IC COMPASSION is a non-profit that has spent ten years dedicated to
the mission of engaging culturally diverse communities through hope, opportunities, and
partnerships; equipping people to move out of poverty and to be of service to others; and
WHEREAS, this is done through several outreach programs such as, the Food Pantry,
Immigration Resource Center, ESL Classes, and the free Wednesday Night Community
Meal and
WHEREAS, the truly inspiring hallmark of this organization is not just in the
numbers of lives changed and made better through the programs, but the transformation
of the recipients of these services who are now leaders and giving back to their
community and continuing the work of the organization; and
WHEREAS, this is a wonderful time to celebrated the vital work of IC
COMPASSION and the achievements of the myriad of Iowa City residents who volunteer
there
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James A. Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, do hereby
proclaim June 8, 2016 to be

And encourage all citizens to honor its work, partners, and volunteers and celebrate IC

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the University of Iowa is the State of Iowa's first public institution of
higher education and has achieved international renown for its leadership and
excellence across the academic spectrum, including particular distinction in the
visual and performing arts; and
Whereas, in June 2008, historic flooding of the Iowa River affected more than
20 University of Iowa buildings consisting of 2.5 million square feet - or nearly
one-sixth of the University of Iowa campus - including all facilities on the UI's
Arts Campus: Hancher Auditorium, Voxman Music Building, and the UI's
original Art, Theater, and Museum of Art buildings; and
Whereas, hundreds if not thousands of members of the greater University of
Iowa community came together as one with immeasurable institutional and
community pride and perseverance in the days before and during the Great Flood
of 2008 and the weeks, months, and years after the floodwaters had receded in a
determined and focused effort to enable the UI to successfully deliver on its
promises to its students and the people of the State of Iowa in the face of never -
before -experienced devastation and disruption; and
Whereas, on June 15, 2016, the greater University of Iowa community will
gather to celebrate the completion of the University's flood recovery efforts and
the coming grand openings of Hancher Auditorium, the Visual Arts Building, and
the Voxman Music Building.
Now Therefore, I, James A. Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, hereby
proclaim June 15, 2016
