JOINT MEETING WITH AREA LEGISLATORS
The following handouts were distributed:
Res. 16-355 — Resolution Establishing the City of Iowa City's 2017 Legislative Priorities
Mayor Throgmorton thanked legislators for attending. City Manager Fruin reviewed the
legislative priorities recently adopted by Res. 16- 355 including:
• Ensure the continued funding of commercial and industrial property tax replacement
payments
• Protection of public sector employee collective bargaining rights
• Protect Home Rule authority for local governments
• Advocate for additional water and wastewater infrastructure funding
• Support the continued excellence of the State's primary, secondary, and higher
education institutions and advocate for additional education funding
• Support the legislative efforts of the Iowa League of Cities and the Metro Coalition
Other items discussed included:
1. CIT Training and future use in Johnson County
2. Local Sales Tax
3. Minimum Wage
4. Outreach efforts promoting Iowa City
5. Decriminalizing of marijuana
