HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Clerk Typist - WastewaterCITY OF IOWA CITY - Job Description Job Class #07-11 FLSA Non-Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Senior Clerk/Typist - Wastewater Department: Public Works Division: Wastewater Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent – Wastewater / Wastewater Superintendent Job Summary Under general direction, coordinates administrative duties including payroll, data analysis, accounting, inventory, filing and budget processing for the Wastewater division. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Provides computer assistance and training for various computer applications, as needed Dispatches personnel as needed via radio and phone for response to resident complaints and requests. Receives and answers questions, complaints and concerns of the general public regarding departmental services; directs unanswered calls, questions and requests to appropriate personnel; responds to department radio calls. Operates standard office equipment including a computer, calculator, typewriter, printers, facsimile machine, switchboard phone system and copy machines in performance of duties. Directs salesmen, repair personnel and deliveries to appropriate location. Performs various basic accounting tasks including preparation of invoices, purchase orders, check requests and payroll forms. Maintains office supply inventory. Prepares work schedules for division personnel including on-call, relief shifts, holidays and vacations; prepares payroll documentation; administers overtime equalization policies. Enters budgetary information into computer; runs reports as requested for expenditures and revenues; makes recommendations on office and computer needs; maintains yearly budget files on department computers. Balances monthly purchase card statements. Prepares information for special assignments and projects. Works with contractors and vendors to resolve equipment problems. Trains coworkers on computer operations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification High school degree or equivalent required. One year of experience in a clerical work environment including public contact and use of personal computer required. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience and Certification Two years of college or technical college in accounting or business management from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of mechanical and wastewater industry terms. Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications. Skills in oral and written communication. Skills in typing, writing/editing correspondence and maintaining file system. Skills identifying computer operational and functional problems and performing corrective action. Ability to operate a two-way radio system and standard business equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical materials in order to record work activities, keep records and work with computers.
