Position Title: Scalehouse Operator
Department: Public Works
Division: Resource Management
Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent – Landfill
Job Summary
Under immediate direction, operates scale to weigh refuse and other items brought in and out of the City Landfill by customers. Collects fees and prepares daily deposits.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operates scale to weigh refuse and other items brought in and out of the City Landfill by customers;
prepares correct charge tickets for separate items; collects fees.
Prepares daily deposits; tallies receipts; balances cash drawer.
Answers the telephone and directs calls and questions to the appropriate parties; receives
messages.
Makes appointments for household hazardous waste program.
Tracks daily time for hourly workers.
Cleans the scale platform; removes snow, ice, mud and other debris, as needed.
Removes litter from Landfill area and building.
Purchases office supplies and first aid/safety supplies.
Cleans scalehouse area regularly; performs general custodial duties.
Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace
and community.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to
stand, walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and
occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required
by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
Six months related experience required. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience and Certification
One year of cashier or customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of landfill rules and regulations. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety
precautions. Ability to handle money and make change. Skills in operating computerized scale and a
calculator. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and make change. Ability to read and
interpret special waste forms and permits.
