HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWI - TransitCITY OF IOWA CITY - Job Description Job Class #02-10 FLSA Non-Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Maintenance Worker I – Transit Department: Transportation Services Division: Transit Supervisor: Operations Supervisor Job Summary Under immediate direction, performs work of routine difficulty in the cleaning and maintenance of City buses and equipment. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Cleans, sweeps, pulls vaults and washes buses daily utilizing an automatic bus washer. Performs routine preventive maintenance to buses; checks and maintains oil, transmission fluid and coolant at appropriate levels; adds fuel to buses; places buses on hold list based on driver-defect cards. Parks buses when cleaned and fueled for use. Maintains job records. Updates the distribution of advertising material on buses. Probes bus fare boxes and puts money in safe. Locks and secures facility. Monitors and stocks mechanized fare boxes with transfers. Drains building air compressor at the end of each night. Maintains safe and secure environment that is free from hazards. Sanitizes driver’s area and passenger spaces of each bus daily. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee frequently is required to taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Three months of work experience required. Valid Iowa driver's license with satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience and Certification Six months experience in custodial services or in a related field preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of public transit procedures and schedules. Skill in the operation of buffers, waxers and other types of cleaning equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and understand work orders and maintain written job records.
