RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO
CONSIDER CONVEYANCE TO THE
STATE OF IOWA A PORTION OF
VACATED RIGHT-OF-WAY ADJACENT
TO 2222 OLD HIGHWAY 218 SOUTH
AND SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING
ON SAID PROPOSAL FOR OCTOBER
3, 2017.
TO ALL TAXPAYERS OF THE CITY OF IOWA
CITY, IOWA, AND TO OTHER INTERESTED
PERSONS:
Public notice is hereby given that the City Council
of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, will conduct a public
hearing on its intention to convey a portion of the
vacated right-of-way adjacent to 2222 Old
Highway 218 South to the State of Iowa for the
use and benefit of the University of Iowa. at 7:00
p.m. on the 3rd day of October, 2017, said
meeting to be held in the Emma J. Harvat Hall in
the City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street in said
city, or if said meeting is cancelled, at the next
meeting of the City Council thereafter as posted
by the City Clerk.
Said resolution is now on file in the office of the
City Clerk in the City Hall in Iowa City, Iowa, and
may be inspected by any interested persons.
Any interested persons may appear at said
meeting of the City Council for the purpose of
making objections to and comments concerning
the proposed conveyance.
This notice is given by order of the City Council
of the City of Iowa City, Iowa and as provided by
law.

Executive Summary:
This resolution sets a public hearing on the conveyance of certain right-of-way adjacent to 2222
Old Highway 218 South to the State of Iowa for the use and benefit of the University of Iowa.
Currently this property is used for the University Surplus.
Background / Analysis:
This right-of-way is not used for traffic circulation, but rather only provides access to the surplus
University Surplus building on 2222 S. Riverside Drive. Sanitary sewer is located in this right-of-
way, and thus the conveyance will be subject to an easement for such purpose.
In exchange for this conveyance to the State, the State would convey its interest in the alley
bisecting City Hall block to the City so that it may be incorporated into redevelopment of that
block for Augusta Place.

Resolution Authorizing Conveyance of a Portion of Vacated Right -of -Way
Adjacent to 2222 Old Highway 218 South to the State of Iowa.
Whereas, the City of Iowa City vacated a portion of the uninn roved right-of-way north of
McCollister Boulevard, west of South Riverside Drive adjacent t 2222 South Riverside Drive;
and
Whereas, the right-of-way appears to be part of an old alignm nt of South Riverside Drive; and
Whereas, the intent of the vaca$pn is to allow it to be conveyed to the State of Iowa for the use
and benefit of the University of lo*p; and /

Whereas, if approved, this conveyance would b done in exchange for the State of Iowa's
conveyance of certain right-of-way to the City in Blo k 44, Original Town (the alley bisecting the
City Hall parking lot) so that it may be incorporated in the redevelopment thereof; and
WHEREAS, on September 19, 2017, the City Counci adopted a Resolution proposing to
convey its interest in the vacated right-of-way, authoriz public notice of the proposed
conveyance, and setting the date and time for the public t an; and
WHEREAS, following the public hearing on the proposed conveyance, the City Council finds
that the conveyance is in the public interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IOWA
CITY, IOWA, that:
1. Upon the direction of the City Attorney, the Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized to
execute a quit claim deed conveying the City's interest in a portion of the vacated right-of-
way adjacent to 2222 Old Highway 218 South, to the State of Iowa for the use and benefit
of the University of Iowa, subject to a sanitary sewer easement and in consideration for
the State's conveyance to the City of the alley right-of-way in Block 44, Original Town,
Iowa City, Iowa.

2. The City Attorney is hereby authorized to deliver said quit claim deed and to carry out any
actions necessary to consummate the conveyance required by law.
