Subject: Supporting Rental Cap for Goosetown
Dear City Counselors:
Because I cannot make this evening's meeting, I'm writing to express my support for extending the revised borders for
the rental cap to include Goosetown in the North Side. We have nearly whole blocks in Goosetown that are currently
rentals, and while I love the diversity of the neighborhood, ensuring that their is a balance between rentals and owner -
occupied properties is crucial. I hope you will support the revised borders that include Goosetown in the capped rental
permit district.
Thank you,
Kate

Subject: RE: Iowa City Road Safety
Mr. Cring,
Thank you for your email. The City Council will receive your email.
The discussion on red light cameras came up a few years ago and the City ultimately adopted a prohibition on using such
technology for traffic enforcement. I can assure you that the Police Department does enforce such violations, but they
are obviously limited in their ability to monitor such intersections on a consistent basis.
Regarding snow removal, the City Council did more staff this past year in our Streets operation and thus we were able to
add a new crew to our plowing and de-icing operations. These additional resources will absolutely help us in our effort
to provide safe routes for the traveling public.
Again, thank you for your email.
Sincerely,
Geoff Fruin

Subject: Iowa City Road Safety
Dear members of City Council,
Firstly, thank you for your service to the state of Iowa and the United States of America. I am writing today concerning the
safety of drivers on the streets of Iowa City. Every time I am driving, I see a frank disregard for stoplights throughout the
city. As the lights change to red, people continue driving through intersections for several seconds. This is extremely
dangerous, and I have not seen any action from our local police taken, which I feel has emboldened drivers at
intersections. Very often I nearly miss accidents. I have lived throughout several states, and have never before seen such
disregard for the laws of the road. I propose that, like many other cities across the USA, traffic cameras be set in place at
intersections, such that those who run red lights may be ticketed. This would very quickly bring safety to our streets. I
have noticed many intersections are currently equipped with cameras already. Furthermore, the funds that are acquired
from this action could be set in place for more salt and personnel to clear roads during winter storms and freezes, which I
feel is another area that needs vast improvement in Iowa City to provide safety for its citizens. I understand this would be
a significant undertaking, however, I feel that this is an extremely important and pressing issue. There is nothing more
important than public safety, and sometimes, it is necessary for the government to take action to ensure the safety of its
citizens.
Thank you very much for taking time to read this letter. I look forward to your reply, and hope you and your families have a
happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Matthew R. Cring

If the FCC decides to get rid of net neutrality will you look into establishing a local ISP so we won't get screwed over by
Mediacom who we all know will if they get the chance.
