Proclamation
Whereas,the bicycle is an economical, environmentally sound, and effective means of
transportation,recreation, and fitness; and
Whereas,the bicycle is considered a legitimate vehicle in all 50 states and is entitled
to legal and responsible use of all public roads in Iowa, except interstate highways; and
Whereas, increased use of the bicycle will benefit all citizens by improving air quality,
reducing traffic congestion and noise, decreasing use of and dependence upon finite
energy resources and will foster healthy lifestyles; and
Whereas,the City of Iowa City has an ongoing commitment to encourage bicycling as
a viable mode of transportation and recreation; and
Whereas, May 14-19 has been declared Johnson County Bike to Work Week, and the
City of Iowa City supports bicycling to work; and
Whereas,the League of American Bicyclists has established the month of May as
National Bicycle Month.
Now, therefore, I, Jim Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim
the week of May 14-19, 2018,to be
Bike to Work Week
in Iowa City, IA, and encourage all citizens to ride their bicycles to work, to the store,
to the park, to school, and with friends and family to promote the many benefits
achieved from bicycling.

Whereas, The Office of the Municipal Clerk, a time honored and vital part of local
government exists throughout the world; and
Whereas, The Office of the Municipal Clerk is the oldest among public servants; and
Whereas, The Office of the Municipal Clerk provides the professional link between the
citizens, the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and
Whereas, Municipal Clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and
impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and
Whereas, The Municipal Clerk serves as the information center on functions of local
government and community; and
Whereas, Municipal Clerks continually strive to improve the administration of the
affairs of the Office of the Municipal Clerk through participation in education programs,
seminars, workshops and the annual meetings of their state,provincial, county and
international professional organizations; and
Whereas, It is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments of the Office of
the Municipal Clerk.
Now, therefore, I,James A. Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, do hereby proclaim
the week of May 6 through May 12, to be
Municipal Clerks Week
and further extend appreciation to our Municipal Clerk, and to all Municipal Clerks for
the vital services they perform and their exemplary dedication to the communities they
represent.

Proclamation
Whereas, Project GREEN (Grow to Reach Environmental Excellence Now) has served
Iowa City residents since 1968, and 2018 marks the fifty-year celebration of the
organization's founding; and
Whereas, through the years, the nonprofit organization's commitment to the local
environment has funded more than two million dollars in community projects; and
Whereas, the all-volunteer Project GREEN effort has grown to now include parks,
roadsides, riverfronts and median parkways on state, county, and city properties and
public school grounds; and
Whereas, Project GREEN also supports efforts to educate citizens about the
importance of beautifying private property; and
Whereas,the City of Iowa City wishes to honor and recognize the organization's
dedication and many years of service to the area and its ongoing partnership with Iowa
City.
Now, Therefore, I, Jim Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, do hereby proclaim the
month of May, 2018 to be
Project Green Month
in the City of Iowa City and encourage all residents to support the Project GREEN Plant
Sale on May 5th, and to enjoy the many beautiful areas in the community that Project
GREEN has made possible.
