Whereas, a library card is a crucial school supply and one of the most important cards in
everyone's wallet; and
Whereas, libraries play a vital role in the continued development of a community by
empowering all people to pursue their interests, discover their passions, and achieve their
highest potentials as learners and citizens; and
Whereas, the Iowa City Public Library connects people to information essential for daily
living and offers everyone opportunities for enjoyment and personal growth while promoting
equity through digital technology and information equally accessible to all; and
Whereas, the Iowa City Public Library connects people to information essential for daily
living and offers them opportunities for enjoyment and personal growth; and
Whereas, librarians bring communities together by creating welcoming and inclusive spaces
for people of all backgrounds to be together; and
Whereas, libraries are constantly transforming and expanding their services to meet the
needs of the communities they serve; and
Now, Therefore, I, James A. Throgmorton, Mayor of Iowa City, proclaim September to be
Library Card Sign-up Month
in Iowa City and encourage everyone to sign up for their own library card today.
