The Parks and Recreation Commission meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Iowa City- appointed members of boards and commissions must be at least 18 years of age and live in Iowa City. The City Iowa City encourages diversity in the appointment of citizens to boards and commissions. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2018. I served on the selection committee for the current Director and participated in screening candidates for City Manager when Tom Markus was hired. I have been involved with creation of the current Master Plan and numerous individual projects including the Eastside Sports Park and all major projects over the past eight years. I believe our Parks & Recreation facilities and services are a vital part of our community and must be sustained and improved with a vision of a better future within budget constraints. And when we are obstructed, I have a history as a problem solver in seeking innovative solutions, especially with finances, programming and creating income streams.. After college I moved away but my husband and I returned when our oldest son was about 18 months old (in early 2016) because we love Iowa City and wanted to raise our children here. My two sons are 4 years old and 9 months old and we are visiting local parks more and more and my 4 year old started taking his first Rec Center class this fall and I know that they will use the Parks and Rec services more and move over the next several years. I feel that I am qualified for this position as I have a vested interest in the Parks and Recreation services due to having used them myself as a child and having my young children now starting to use them. I am very interested in shaping local Parks and Rec plans and policies for my children and other young folks of Iowa City. 6.
