Position Title: Communications Aide

Job Summary
Under direct supervision, greets the public, directs phone calls, responds to questions, offers
appropriate assistance, assists with internal communications and outreach to City staff, and performs
other clerical duties as assigned. Assists Communications Coordinator in management of customer
service tracking software (ICgovXpress) and creates and manages content for the City’s employee
website, www.iowacity.online. Creates web content for area events and related road closures on
www.icgov.org.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Greets the public and provides routine information and assistance.
Answers the phone; takes and delivers messages.
Provides content management for the City employee website www.iowacity.online.
Creates web content for area events and related road closure announcements for public awareness
at www.icgov.org.
Manages customer service through the City’s online reporting app, ICgovXpress.
Schedules meetings for City staff in City Hall.
Assists Communications Coordinator in internal messaging to City staff.
Helps track and maintain inventories of operational supplies.
Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace
and community.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Provides translation services, if applicable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger,
handle or feel; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel. The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school degree or equivalent required. Familiarity with computer systems required. Minimum of
one month of experience working with the public required.
Preferred Education, Experience and Certification
Six months of experience preferred including professional writing, use of computer, and public
contact preferred. Bilingual skills to provide translation services preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Computer skills, writing and editing skills. Knowledge of basic office equipment, filing and sorting
techniques. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff.
