Experience and/or activities which you feel qualifyyou for this position:*
First, as an avid life long fisherman and more recent birder, I have a deep passion for the outdoors and
recreational opportunities. We lived in Coralville for 2 years before we moved to Iowa City where we have lived
for the past 10 years. Throughout this time we have benefited from the many wonderful parks, trails, and
community opportunities with our kids. We are blessed to be close to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area and
as a result have witnessed and benefited from the growth of the park. We enjoy canoeing, kayaking and most
recently using the stand up paddle boards on the lake as a family. We also enjoy birding in many Iowa City
Parks and continue to explore and learn more about our surrounding community as a result.
Second, I will be able to bring new ideas and perspective to the Commission. As our family travels throughout
the US we make it a point to visit not only the National Parks and Forests, but other state and local parks as
well. This has given me a deep appreciation for the value of our Parks and Forests and unique insights into
what other locations are doing well that can be applied to Iowa City.
Lastly, I am excited to work with others on the Commission and also to gather additional insights from the
community as we work together in steering the future vision. I have had the wonderful opportunity to serve as
Vice President of our neighborhood homeowners association, as an active member of our Elementary PTO,
and as a leader in our church. I have experience working together to accomplish common goals and shared
visions.
These experiences have shaped who I am and I would welcome the opportunity to serve as a member of the
Parks and Recreation Commission.
What is your present knowledge of each advisory board you are interested in?*
I was able to attend the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting this past Wednesday on January 8th and
was impressed with the Commission. I have also been able to reread some of the past meeting minutes to
better familiarize myself with the topics at hand and direction of the Commission. As Iowa City continues to
expand, I would like to help ensure that all community members are able to take advantage of the outdoors
and other recreational opportunities and experience nature in ways that are meaningful to them.
Please contact the City Attorney at 356-5030 to discuss questions or concerns regarding a potential conflict
of interest. The following describe some but not all potential conflicts.

proceeds of the federally -assisted activity, either for themselves or those with whom they have business or
immediate family ties, during their tenure or for one year thereafter.
