Public parking is provided at the northeast corner of Waterworks Prairie Park. Park amenities include trailhead parking, ponds and wetlands, wooded areas, shelter and canoe access on the Iowa River. Numerous native prairie grasses and wildflowers bloom during the warm months and provide a food bank for all kinds of birds and other wildlife during the winter. The trails are open and offer a safe place to run, walk, snow shoe, or cross country ski. The gentle slope near the Butler Bridge entrance could be used to take the little ones sleigh riding. The park is also a great place to watch for bald eagles and various other winter birds. You might also see fox, turkeys, deer, rabbits, and squirrels that make the park their home because of the motor vehicle free zone required for Iowa City’s drinking water well head protection area. Iowa City residents can get to the park by bike or foot via the North Dubuque Street Pedestrian / Bike Bridge part of the Iowa River Trail, that traverses I-80. The concrete trail connects Foster Road, Butler Bridge, and the Waterworks Prairie Park Trail. Winter arrives at Water Works Prairie Park Water Works Prairie Park provides year−round enjoyment.
