Item Number: r 4 CITY OF IOWA CITY www.icgov.org August 18, 2020 Human Rights Commission - One vacancy to fill an unexpired term plus a three-year term. Upon appointment - December 31, 2023. (Zachary Rochester resigned) Applications must be received by 5:00 P.M., September 29, 2020. ATTACHMENTS: Description Zachary Rochester Resignation Kellie Fruehling From: Stefanie Bowers Sent: Wednesday, August 5, 2020 4:40 PM To: Kellie Fruehling Subject: FW: Notice of Resignation From: Zachary Rochester <zacharyjrochester@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 5, 2020 4:12 PM To: Stefanie Bowers <Stefanie-Bowers@iowa-city.org> Subject: Notice of Resignation Stefanie, Please forward to the Commission at your earliest convenience. Thank you, Zachary Dear Stefanie and Fellow Commissioners, I am writing today to notify you of my resignation from the Iowa City Human Rights Commission. I understand this decision will be a surprise, and it has been an especially difficult decision for me considering how much I believe in this group's ability to be an agent of change. Indeed, I would not have even anticipated writing this letter a couple months ago. My deep passion for our community, human rights and social justice is often my guiding light and is what led me to apply for the commission in the first place. However, while we have been living through such a transformative and complex time collectively, I have had a lot of change and stress manifest in my personal life that has needed a great deal of my care and attention. As I look ahead to the coming months, I have asked myself if I truly feel I have the capacity to dedicate the time and honest thought to the work I would be doing on the commission-- will I be able to commit the way I expect to and the way the commission deserves? I have sat with this decision for several weeks now and I am confident that it is best for me to step back at this time. 1 intend to stay abreast with the work being done from the commission and the Office of Equity and Human Rights. I also would like to express how deeply I have appreciated the relationships I have cultivated and the support I have received from the members of this group. Of course, I will still be active in our community and I look forward to being a partner with the commission and with each of you in the future. With Sincere Gratitude, Zachary Rochester Zachary Rochester (They/Them) 712-490-3037 zacharvirochester(omail.com
