RISK
LaTasha, I received yr email of 11 November 2020 and will comment on a couple points you made.
It does not matter that planning for it began before the pandemic occurred. Great events often times disrupt progress.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the ninth month the SC will be closed to the public.
It is grossly financially irresponsible to remodel a building that is not open to the public it is suppose to serve!
It is one of at least three departments that are operating way below their capacity and mission statements.
Likewise, the public library and rec center remain closed as well and the question is why?
I consider these closings to be a result of failure of leadership. Respective department heads could not rise above their
own sense of fear and media hype to keep their departments up and running.
While the SC has gone to a online presence, the fact remains that the majority of members, due to their ages, are not
trained in use of computers, and have no interest in doing so. So, this approach has very little success to show for it.
Returning to city departments for a moment, with the exception of the three noted, the others have continued to deal
with the public on a face-to-face basis throughout this crisis without sustaining too many sick or dead personnel.
Those department heads and personnel are to be congratulated. But, the question remains why the other three failed or
refused to do so?
Closing the SC is not protecting or saving lives. The members are aged individuals and know about risk and can choose to
accept it or not
It is not your responsibility to make that paternalistic choice for them. Doing so, is disrespecting them and the equivalent
of spitting in their faces.
I am not angry at you for your failure of leadership in this case. Your failure is the city managers failure because he failed
to oversee what you were doing and get you to get your department up and running again.
I believe he should be fired before you are replaced.
I say again, it is imperative that you get your department up and running as near normal as possible, other city
departments are, you should too.
Until you do, discussion of remodeling should not even take place! In fact, if it continues to remain closed, discussion
concerning disbanding it and selling it off as an asset should occur.
In light of what I have said, I will not be submitting any suggestions regarding remodeling, as I have no intention of
taking part in what I consider to be defrauding the public.
Have a nice weekend! Best regards.
