HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Iowa City Remote AccessCity of Iowa City Remote Access Remote access requires you have Microsoft Authenticator setup on your mobile device. To view instructions on setting up Authenticator, see ‘Microsoft Authenticator Instructions.’ There are two ways to access Remote Access. Option 1, directly through your Web browser. 1. Open https://horizon.iowa-city.org in a Web Browser. 2. From here, you will see the screen below. Select the option on the right, ‘VMWare Horizon HTML Access.’ 3. At the next screen, you will be prompted to enter your City Email then select ‘Next’. (Ex. jdoe@iowa- city.org) 4. The following screen will ask you for your password. Enter your City password and select ‘Next.’ 5. The next screen will indicate Microsoft Authenticator is requesting to approve your sign in. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device and approve the sign in. 6. Once you have approved your sign in, you will be given the option to stay signed in. If you are using a public computer, be sure to select ‘No’. 7. Finally, you will be presented with your available Remote Access Resources. Icons at the top are available remote desktops, and icons underneath are available applications. Select any available to open. Option 2, using the Horizon Client. This client requires you install an application on your computer. It supports additional features such as using multiple monitors. 1. Open https://horizon.iowa-city.org in a Web Browser. 2. From here, you will see the screen below. Select the link that says, ‘Click Here to Download VMWare Horizon Client.’ 3. This will open a new web page and take you to a third-party site. Select ‘Go To Downloads’ relative to the operating system you are using. 4. Once downloaded, open the installer, and follow the prompts to install the application. 5. Once the application is installed, open your web browser again and go to https://horizon.iowa-city.org. This time select ‘Launch Native Client’ from the options below. 6. At the next screen, you will be prompted to enter your City Email and select ‘Next’. (Ex. jdoe@iowa-city.org) 7. The following screen will ask you for your password. Enter your City password and select ‘Next.’ 8. The next screen will indicate Microsoft Authenticator is requesting to approve your sign in. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device and approve the sign in. 9. One the sign in is approved, you may see a popup similar to the one below asking for permission to open the installed VMWare Horizon Client. Select ‘Open’. 10. Once the Horizon Client application is launched, you will see your list of available desktop pools and applications. Additional Information: When using the Horizon Application, you can select the ellipses at the bottom right of available resources. This will give you additional options such as ‘Display’, ‘Add to Start Menu’, and ‘Create a Shortcut to Desktop’. Selecting ‘Add to Start Menu’, or ‘Create a Shortcut to Desktop’ will create a shortcut respectively on your device. Launching these shortcuts will directly take you to the login screen and then directly to the application.
