HomeMy WebLinkAboutCivilian Accreditation ManagerCITY OF IOWA CITY - Job Description Job Class #24-10 FLSA Non-Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Civilian Accreditation Manager Department: Police Division: Administrative Services Supervisor: Police Captain – Support Services Job Summary Under general direction, manages the accreditation process for the Iowa City Police Department as well as similar continuous improvement processes including department inspections and policy review, revision, and implementation. Assists in the Evidence Department as needed. Assists department personnel with travel and training planning and reconciliation. Acts as the account administrator for the Iowa City Police Department’s eShare Portal for asset forfeiture. Acts as the primary point of contact for the Department’s Bullet Proof Vest Partnership grant. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Manages the CALEA accreditation program and ensures that all CALEA required reports and time sensitive activities occur as needed. Collects source material for the preparation of the department's reports on continued compliance with CALEA standards. Compiles and maintains all proofs of compliance with the law enforcement accreditation process. Monitors accreditation standards, updates and changes. Manages accreditation files accordingly. Maintains confidentiality in accessing confidential or sensitive source material necessary to compile required statistics or reports. Manages the software system for policy, training and CALEA. Maintains and conducts CALEA orientations for new employees and before on-site assessments. Manages and prepares for the yearly file reviews and the CALEA on-site assessment. Creates and submits reports for Chief of Police. Attends CALEA re-accreditation conferences. Maintains policy and procedures documents. Job Class #24-10 Administrative Services Page 2 Reviewed 01/13/2023 Reviews department policies and recommends policy change and updates as necessary to meet CALEA standards and consistency with City policy. Collects, documents and shelves submitted evidence and property. Disposes of evidence, seized property and found property. Manages the eShare Portal for asset forfeiture. Manages the software system for policy in Lexipol. Completes travel paperwork for Police Department staff. Makes travel accommodations for department personnel. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed darkness or poor lighting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification High school diploma or equivalent required. One-year general office experience and basic computer knowledge required. Demonstrated experience in maintaining complex records required. Notary Public required within one year of hire. National Crime Information Center Certification required within six months of hire. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass criminal background check Preferred Education, Experience and Certification Previous experience in a law enforcement setting or handling of confidential files preferred. One year of experience as a CALEA accreditation manager preferred. Skills in data entry and computer operations. Skills in operating various telephone equipment. Ability to read and understand written materials including police reports, traffic citations and warrants. Knowledge of department's records management system. Knowledge of department evidence/seized property protocols. Ability to organize evidence/seized property using current storage procedures, protocols, and computer programs. Ability to handle, package and transport fragile, expensive, and irreplaceable evidence/seized property to maintain the integrity, value, and chain of custody of these items. Ability to handle, accurately count and deposit large sums of currency. Skills in effective communications. Ability to operate and police vehicles.
