3. Project
Transit Sustainability and Social Justice Research Project
The Transit Gaps Research Project aims to identify gaps in late-night transit services in Iowa City by conducting
transportation surveys targeting underrepresented BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and low-income workers in Iowa City. Our
previous research in 2015 found gaps in public transit services in the early morning, late night, and weekend
service. In addition, 1/3 of respondents missed out on employment opportunities due to transportation. This
project will promote more sustainable and less expensive public transportation to workers who would otherwise
walk in the cold, pay for costly taxi or Uber services, or driving personal vehicles.
