Narrative of Offense Committed
On or about the above stated date and time, the Defendant did
carry, go armed with or transport a firearm, to-wit: _________, on the grounds of a school
NARRATIVE
At approximately 0900 on 11/29/2023, the defendant walked onto Grant Wood Elementary school grounds, entered the building and the main office, to confront
the principal about sending the defendant's son home from school. Staff at the school reported the defendant demanded to see the principal and threatened to
assault the principal multiple times. The defendant threatened to assault at least one other staff member who attempted to de-escalate the defendant. At one
point during the encounter, the defendant removed a loaded pistol firearm and holster from his belt, handed it to his girlfriend (who accompanied him into the
school), and told her something to the effect of "hold this so I don't do something stupid with it." The defendant then entered the school halls against the
protests of staff and began searching for the principal. When staff stated they were calling the Police, the defendant exited the building where he retrieved the
gun from his girlfriend before being stopped by Police with the gun still on his person. Surveillance recordings at the school confirms the account of staff. The
defendant's girlfriend stated she told the defendant not to take his gun to the school. Officers interviewed the defendant where he admitted to taking the gun into
the school and handing it off to his girlfriend. He stated he could not remember threatening the principal and staff, but admitted he may have in the heat of the
moment. He also stated his girlfriend likely told him not to take the gun to the school, and repeatedly confirmed he knew it is illegal to possess firearms at school
grounds.
