MOTION FOR CITY COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS Hayek: Item 2 is City Council appointments, and what I have done over the last week or so is speak with, uh, all of you, uh, individually about these various appointments, and I've got a working list. I'd like to describe it, and if, uh, there are individuals who want to make a modification to that, we can certainly do so, but if not, we have this mostly put together. What I've got on the list is, uh, for Rules Committee, uh, Dickens and Champion. Uh, for Emergency Management Commission, uh, Mike Wright is willing to renew. For JCCOG, that's set. The Convention and Visitor's, uh, Bureau, uh, I've served on that and am willing to continue to serve on that, unless somebody else wants that spot. Economic Development, Regenia's expressed an interest in renewing, uh, Susan Mims, uh, has expressed an interest in joining, and Connie has no problem stepping down from that, and I think it's, uh, important for the Mayor to be part of that so I'm...I'm willing to renew on that as well. Youth Advisory Commission, uh, Ross is willing to continue and Connie's willing to, uh, continue as an alternate. Chief Elected Officials Board, Susan. Champion: What is that? Mims: I asked the same question. (laughter) Hayek: And I had the same question. (laughter) You want to, uh... Wright: Yeah! What is it? Hayek: Well... Karr: Jeff...Jeff, do you have any information on the Chief Elected Officials? Davidson: I'm sorry. I was not paying attention. Karr: The Chief Elected Officials Board. Davidson: I have not a clue. (laughter) Hayek: Yeah (several talking and laughing). We expect great things from (several talking and laughing) Karr: I'll follow up, Susan, and get you something. Mims: Thank you. Hayek: JCCOG Affordable Housing Task Force, uh, Mike has expressed interest in serving on that. JCCOG... Is the Chief Elected Officials Board, is that the group that's been meeting between... Cedar Rapids and Iowa City? Bailey: That's usually the Mayor. Wilburn: Okay. (several talking) Karr: No, it's a different. Wilburn: Okay, all right. Just thought I'd try and help with that. Hayek: Yeah, thanks. Wilburn: (mumbled) (several talking) Hayek: The, uh, JCCOG Public Transit Expansion Exploratory Task Force, uh, we're not sure that that continues to operate, but if it does continue to operate, Mike's willing to continue to serve on that. Metro Coalition of Cities, um, propose Ross and I continue...that Ross continue on that, and that I join as the alternate. Ross was recently, uh, re-elected by his peers of the coalition to chair that, so it's an honor for the City. Joint Emergency Communication Center Policy Board, uh, Regenia and Mike Wright. Karr: Which of the two...the two-year and the one-year? Bailey: Which one do you want? (both talking) I think you took two last time. Wright: I had a two-year before, so... Bailey: Just flip it. Karr: Flip, so one-year is Mike... Wright? (several responding) Hayek: ECICOG, uh, Susan has expressed willingness to serve on this, uh, committee. Seats Paratransit Advisory Committee, um, I can't tell...does Connie get re- upped, or she's just...she's on it through the end of June. Karr: Through ten...if Connie's interested, we can continue through ten and then it... and then in June we'll come back again with a reappointment. These are not...these are our appointments, but not our terms. So therefore, if Connie's interested in fulfilling the term till ten we'll do that, and then come back to you (mumbled) Hayek: Is that okay? Okay. And then, uh, Terry would fill the second position there for 2009 appointee. Uh, and then last, uh, but not least, JC, or Johnson County This represents only a reasonably accurate transcription of the special formal Iowa City City Council meeting of January 8, 2010. #2 Page 3 Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee, Connie is, uh, willing to serve on that going forward. (several talking) Champion: She's been on it for ten years! (laughter) Anybody else wants it... Hayek: Something like that! Bailey: You're Join' a great job! Champion: Yeah, thanks! Hayek: Are there any, uh, suggested or requested modifications to this list as proposed? If there are none, then I would entertain a motion, uh.... Bailey: So moved. Wright: Second. Hayek: Moved by Bailey, seconded by Wright to approve the, uh, appointments as listed. All those in favor say aye. Opposed same (noise on mic). Approved unanimously, and uh, we'll adjourn this meeting. This represents only a reasonably accurate transcription of the special formal Iowa City City Council meeting of January 8, 2010.
