Richard W. "Dick" Lee Award
The Richard W. Lee award was established in 1999 by several retired Iowa City
Police Officers to honor the life work of Retired Captain Richard W. Lee. Captain
Lee served the Iowa City Community as a police officer through three decades,
from July 1, 1950 until his retirement July 16, 1982. The recipient of this award
is selected annually by Iowa City Police Officers themselves. This award is
presented to the Officer who best displays the characteristics that endeared
Captain Lee to those he served.
The criteria for selection is based on;
1) professionalism
2) compassion for citizens & fellow officers
3) unique & effective ways of accomplishing objectives
4) demonstration of a specific action/program exemplifying positive
impact on the Community.
The recipient of this award for 2009 has been an Iowa City Police Officer since
September 7, 2005. Throughout his career he has lived out the qualities of this
award.
Dennis exemplifies what the Officers within the Police Department look for in a
police officer. He has an outstanding work ethic and is always there to assist his
coworkers with their duties. He treats others with respect and is compassionate
in his dealings with those who are less fortunate or have been the victims of
crime. His integrity and ability to teach others has led to his assignment as a
Field Training Officer to instruct new police officers. Dennis presents himself in a
very professional manner and represents the Police Department and the entire
Iowa City community in a fashion that reflects the high standard that we expect
from our Officers.
It is with great pride that this award is presented to:
